Dumpster Diving for Your Love – Canto II
Towards New York, a dream unfurled,
John embarks, hoping to land upon fabled shore,
With Drilla, his loyal friend, to twirl,
With Roni, Sue, and doggie, Brutus whom all adored.
Amidst the tangles of the back roads' swirls,
John yet pines for Julie, whom he still longs for.
A car sickness interrupts his wandering mind,
Love's sweet ache he's tried to leave behind.
Through winding road and trees like spires,
They travel on, hopes and dreams in tow,
Ever still love's sweet yearning flame a'fire
Burns low within John's heart, the steady glow.
Then fate, in guise of tempest dire,
Unleashes screaming rains and winds to blow,
That forces them to seek a shelter's grace,
As storm clouds settle, darkening all space.
Thus lost and stranded in forested embrace,
An abandoned cabin, their refuge found,
Yet soon hunger gnaws, a relentless chase,
Their supplies dwindle, and desperation sounds.
Brutus, the loyal friend, meets a cruel fate,
As hunger's grip tightens, the group astound,
Forced to cook and eat the dog, heavy hearts aghast,
Brutus lived to serve his masters, his last die fully cast.
Yet still the hunger calls, a longing deep and dire,
Consumes their souls, and madness grows.
Roni and Sue, their minds now conspire,
To bleed out dear Drilla for to calm their bellies' throes.
In cannibalistic rage, they feed him to the fire,
Billed forever as the stars of this insane, gruesome show.
All friendship shattered in an hour's bloody haze,
Sheer madness compelled them from high bluff to shallow graves.
John then left he cabin to find other shelter from the night,
Marta and Berta came upon him, some hikers camping near,
Their kindness offering a guiding light,
To John, adrift in sorrow, doubt, and fear.
With food and blankets, they ease his plight,
Their hearts filled with compassion, pure and clear,
And in the chaos once again love's sweet burning starts,
As Marta and John's souls entwine, warm heart to heart.
Yet love's swole bloom is met by harsh disdain,
Marta's father, Leo, with wrath untamed,
Dislikes John instantly, with scorn and pain,
His judgment harsh, his ire unashamed.
With ropes and chains, he binds John, curses his name,
And casts him forth, to waters unclaimed,
In a canoe adrift on rivers wide,
Down to Memphis town, where John's fate now abides.
Thus ends the tale of John's tumultuous flight,
From KC's suburbs to New York's towering height.
Through storms and hunger, love's sweet, haunting plight,
Onto Memphis' shores, where next we will recite.
From a cabin drenched in blood, along river's winding might,
John's journey vacillates from dark to light.
The waves of destiny did his vessel guide,
To the muddy shores of Memphis, where strange things coincide.
