Eating Spiders
The spiders crawled over and under and into our bodies the night you and I melted on the shore of the lake
The spiders they told us of living more freely and how they could help us if only we’d let go of all of our fears
The spiders made castles from pebbles and driftwood and crowned us with leaves that’d been dried by bright moonlight
Then the spiders they left us to talk the night over and we wondered how wicked we might grow in the daytime
Now in the dark corners when we see tiny spiders we wait underneath them and we whisper so gently and we widen our mouths so that they can drop down and climb right inside
