The Missus is Running For Congress

My wife is primarying Sharice Davids in the Kansas 3rd.

Wild, yeah?

I voted for Sharice twice. Sarah voted for her twice. Sarah canvassed for her. We fully supported a bipartisan approach. And then we watched her take AIPAC money. We watched her vote to fund ICE. We watched her walk a line that had nothing to do with representing us and seemingly everything to do with managing her career.

So here we are.

Full time working professional and full time mom at her wit's end, like: "Wake up, Sharice."

Sarah's platform is not complicated:

Abolish ICE. No AIPAC money. No corporate PAC money. Healthcare as a right. Accessible education. Immigrants make us strong and Kansas goddamn well knows that.

These are not radical positions. The only people who think this is radical are the ones cashing the checks.

When your representative votes for policies and plans that just don't make sense, the word "bipartisan" stops meaning bridge and starts meaning surrender.

I've been writing about ICE on this blog for weeks now. Poems. Rage. The stuff that comes out when you can't sleep because your country is hunting people. But Sarah's doing something harder than writing poems. She's putting her name on a ballot and saying out loud what the silent majority of Democrats have been thinking: we are not being properly represented.

Will she make it the ballot? Who knows? She's no funds to campaign. She'll take some heat from all around. But she's tough, tho. And wicked smaht. Mostly she's pretty pissed off that she even has to do this.
